Matthew Tripolone has been appointed as Head of Development, Australasia at InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG)

Effective from early June 2014, Matthew will be based at the company's Australia head office at Bond Street in Sydney. Matthew will lead IHG's strategic growth and development across its Australasia region, including Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. He joins IHG from Accor Hotels where he held the role of General Manager, Development Pacific, since 2008. Prior to that Matthew has worked for a number of leading companies specialising in development, planning and acquisition including Scanna Developments and Urbis. The Head of Development role was previously held by Phil Kasselis, who has moved to take on the new position of Managing Director at Pro Invest, an international investment company which has partnered with IHG and established a $150 million fund to develop a portfolio of 15 Holiday Inn Express hotels across Australia. IHG currently operates its InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn brands in the market and will be introducing Holiday Inn Express which will launch in the next 12 months. IHG has 41 properties open across six countries and territories in Australasia, with another four due to open in the next three to five years.

Michael Cottan has been named VP and General Manager at Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney

Mr Cottan was previously general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney from 2003 to 2008. He has now returned to the city he has always fondly referred to as his second home. In 2003, Mr Cottan was instrumental in the property’s successful journey from ANA to Shangri-La, which then became the blueprint for the group’s further development in other Western destinations. During his initial tenure at Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney, Mr Cottan also completed an AU$40 million refurbishment, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts’ first expansion programme into a non-Asian location.

Tanya Hussey has been appointed as Director of Sales at Ibis Adelaide

The new-build Ibis Adelaide has announced its first pre-opening executive staff appointments following General ManagerNathan Frost’s appointment in 2013. This month, Tanya Hussey will begin in the role of Director of Sales for Ibis Adelaide. Tanya joined Accor when The Sebel Launceston entered the network in 2012 with the Mirvac acquisition. Prior to this Tanya worked at The Sebel and Citigate King George Square the now Pullman and Mercure King George Square.

Kim Powley has been appointed as General Manager at Pan Pacific Perth

The appointment brings Kim full circle, marking the return to his home city and back to Pan Pacific Perth where he started his career more than 30 years ago. Kim has since garnered over 20 years of valuable hotel management experience across Asia Pacific. He joins Pan Pacific Hotels Group from Sentosa Resorts Bali where as Area General Manager, he oversaw the management and development of luxury resorts and residences in Bali and Jakarta. Prior to this, Kim spent seven years with Starwood Hotels and Resorts as General Manager of Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers and The Westin Kuala Lumpur. He has also managed Hyatt and Sheraton properties in Australia, Indonesia and Malaysia.
