IHG and Greenland USA Open Global Flagship Hotel Indigo® Hotel in the Heart of Downtown Los Angeles

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), one of the world's leading hotel companies, and Greenland USA, a leading developer of modern and transformative properties, today announce the opening of the Hotel Indigo® brand's first hotel in Los Angeles—the 350-room, 18-story flagship Hotel Indigo Los Angeles Downtown hotel. Located at 899 Francisco Street in the new 6.3 acre mixed-use Metropolis development, the boutique hotel sits in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, a neighborhood with a burgeoning art, culture and entertainment scene. With the design concept created by Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA), the design of the property is inspired by 1920's Prohibition era, infusing elements from the underground speakeasies and tunnels, the Fiesta de las Flores parade, the budding Hollywood movie industry, as well as historic Chinatown.

Matina Lapanaitis has been appointed as General Manager at The Mayfair Hotel

BENCHMARK®, a global hospitality company, has named Matina Lapanaitis general manager for The Mayfair Hotel, a Benchmark Resorts & Hotels property located in Los Angeles, California. Greg Champion, BENCHMARK’s president, made the announcement. A seasoned hotel executive with three decades of senior leadership experience, Matina Lapanaitis was most recently managing director for Mosaic Hotel and Maison 140, both of Beverly Hills, California. While general manager of Mosaic Hotel in a previous role, the hotel secured a coveted place on Travel + Leisure magazine’s prestigious “Top 10 Small Hotels in the USA and Canada” list. She has also served in top positions for properties in San Diego, West Hollywood, as well as in Australia. Matina Lapanaitis attended CDI Institute, St. Leonards, North South Wales, Australia. She resides in Beverly Hills.

Jakub Skyvara has been appointed as Director of Restaurants and Banquets. at Viceroy Santa Monica

Jakub Skyvara, Director of Restaurants and Banquets, takes on the role of managing and overseeing the hotel’s Food and Beverage operation. Mr Skyvara comes to Viceroy Santa Monica from the Four Seasons Hotel Rancho Encantado where he was responsible for the entire food and beverage operation. Prior to moving back to US, Mr Skyvara spent over two years at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong where he led the team of Michelin Star restaurants including Mandarin Grill and Bar, The Krug Room and The Chinnery to new heights of service and product innovation. No stranger to Los Angeles, Mr Skyvara spent over four years at the Beverly Wilshire before moving to Hong Kong. His passions include all things food and beverage with a real emphasis on excellence in service delivery. Mr Skyvara attended Charles University in the Czech Republic where he studied Tourism and Sport management.

Nijad Fares has been appointed as Hotel Manager at Viceroy Santa Monica

As Hotel Manager, Mr Fares’ extensive background in hospitality sets him up for success in managing all operational aspects at the boutique property, including sales, marketing, food and beverage and future growth efforts. Prior to this appointment, Mr Fares held the position of Director of Food and Beverage at Clift Hotel San Francisco, where he was overseeing the culinary team to help develop all seasonal menus, and ensuring the quality of guest experiences. Before his time in San Francisco, Mr Fares held the role of Director of Restaurants and Bars at The St Regis Monarch Beach and The Westin San Diego; Restaurant Manager at The Westin Maui; and Food and Beverage Supervisor at The Sheraton San Diego.

Hotel Nikko San Francisco Now Open

Hotel Nikko San Francisco, located steps from Union Square in the heart of the city, unveils a sweeping $60 million renovation commemorating its 30th anniversary this year. Following a three-month renovation, spearheaded by Hirsch Bedner Associates, the contemporary and sophisticated interior design elevates the entire guest experience, complemented by the genuine and intuitive service Hotel Nikko San Francisco has long been known for. The new design, which takes inspiration from the Nikko's Japanese heritage and the fluid lines of a traditional kimono, encompasses 405 of 533 guestrooms and suites, structural upgrades to the lobby, public areas, third floor ballroom and meeting spaces, as well as large-scale improvements to the hotel's overall infrastructure and technology.

Sandra Vivas has been appointed as General Manager at Shade Hotel Redondo Beach

Shade hotel announced today the appointment of industry veteran and experienced hospitality professional, Sandra Vivas, as general manager of the premier waterfront destination located in the Southern California coastal community of Redondo Beach. The luxury boutique hotel opened in November of 2016 and serves as the focal point of the massive Redondo Beach waterfront revitalization program.

Reylon Agustin has been promoted to Executive Chef at Rosewood Sand Hill

Agustin will oversee Rosewood Sand Hill’s culinary team at Madera, the hotel’s Michelin-starred signature restaurant, the Pool Bar & Grill, en-suite dining and banquets. Daley will develop and implement Madera’s dinner and bar menus, and Quiroz will oversee the property’s F&B staff, day-to-day operations and the hotel’s cocktail program.

Mario Quiroz has been appointed as Director of Food & Beverage at Rosewood Sand Hill

Born and raised in Puebla, Mexico, Quiroz most recently served as assistant director of food & beverage at Rosewood Mayakoba in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Previously, Quiroz worked as assistant director of food & beverage for the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and Paradisus by Melia in Playa del Carmen. Quiroz holds a bachelor’s degree in restaurant and hotel business administration from the University of Las Americas in Puebla.

Salvador Soberanis has been appointed as Executive Chef at Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort

As executive chef, Salvador Soberanis will oversee all culinary operations for the resort, under the guidance of Teran. Soberanis started at the resort in May 2015 as part of its pre-opening team and supported menu development for new Margaritaville concepts at the resort, including JWB Prime Steak and Seafood. Prior to joining Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort, Soberanis held culinary positions at The Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort; Sonesta Coconut Grove Miami; The Ritz-Carlton in Washington, D.C.; and The Grand America Hotel and Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City.

Andres Teran has been promoted to Director of Food & Beverage at Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort

As director of food and beverage, Andres Teran will oversee the strategy and ongoing operations of the resort’s eight diverse food and beverage concepts. Teran started at the resort in May 2015 as part of its pre-opening team and has been instrumental in driving the resort’s exciting food and beverage program. He began his 15-year career at The Alexander Hotel in Miami Beach, where he assisted with the successful launch of Shula’s Steakhouse. He then went on to serve as executive sous chef for Ocean Point Resort & Spa in Sunny Isles and later, executive chef at Morton’s Steakhouse in North Miami, leading a $6.5 million operation. Prior to joining Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort, Teran led the team at the Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort.

Jennifer Harrison has been appointed as Director of Sales & Marketing at Cambria LAX El Segundo

Jennifer Harrison, Director of Sales & Marketing, was the first to join the Cambria LAX El Segundo hospitality leadership team. Jennifer has been a sales executive for more than 20 years, working for top brands in hospitality industry including: Marriott, Starwood, IHG and even some famous Las Vegas hotels. Jennifer holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Business/Economics from Arizona State University.

Derek Evans has been appointed as Assistant General Manager at Cambria hotel and suites El Segundo LAX

Derek grew up in the hospitality business working for his father who runs a hotel in Provincetown, Massachusetts. He began his own career in the hotel business and worked in a variety of 4-star boutique hotels in the Boston market. In 2014, Derek moved to California and joined the Pacifica Hotel Company as Front Office Manager and was promoted to Assistant General Manager within the company. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT.

Drew Berry has been named General Manager at Cambria hotel and suites El Segundo LAX

Drew has previously held roles as General manager with Jamaica Bay Inn Marina Del Rey, Hotel Manager at the Le Meridian Delfina Santa Monica, and Director of Food and Beverage at both the L’Ermitage Beverly Hills, and the Mandarin Oriental San Francisco. Drew holds a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Business and Communication), with a minor in Tourism/hotel management from Arizona State University.

Jillian Clary has been appointed as Director of Sales at Courtyard Santa Ana Orange County

With the recent hiring of a new director of sales, Courtyard Santa Ana Orange County looks to explore new opportunities for the hotel in the Orange County area. Under the management of Dimension Development, the hotel has appointed Jillian Clary to take over the important role. Prior to accepting the position at the hotel near Irvine, Clary accumulated 16 years of hospitality experience across roles in quality assurance for fast-food restaurants as well as responsibilities in revenue management, brand quality, human resources management and sales management for other hotel chains. With a firm foundation for success, she graduated in 2003 from the Collins School of Hospitality Management at California State Polytechnic University-Pomona.

Raymond Vermolen has been appointed as General Manager at Hotel Indigo Los Angeles Downtown

Vermolen, the new GM of the hotel, has been a member of the IHG family for over 20 years. He was previously GM of the InterContinental Los Angeles Century City hotel, the InterContinental Houston property and most recently the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile hotel. With a bachelor’s degree in hospitality, a master of business administration and extensive experience in the food and beverage sphere, Vermolen will be leading the efforts of this forthcoming flagship property for Hotel Indigo and the brand’s entrée into the Los Angeles market. Born and raised in The Netherlands, Vermolen is fluent in four languages.

Bruce Curry has been appointed as Director of Sales and Marketing at Hotel Indigo Los Angeles Downtown

Curry rejoined the IHG family as the director of sales and marketing for the Hotel Indigo Los Angeles Downtown property, where he will leverage his diverse experience across veteran hotel brands including Conrad, Sheraton, Regent, Fairmont and Four Seasons after beginning his hospitality career at what is now the InterContinental Hong Kong hotel. Most recently, Bruce served as the director of sales & marketing at the Crowne Plaza Seattle hotel where he received the Partner in Excellence award from IHG global sales. Capitalizing on the Hotel Indigo Los Angeles Downtown property’s prime location near the Staples Center, L.A. Live and the Los Angeles Convention Center, Curry will spearhead all sales and marketing efforts for the hotel, inclusive of group, high-end leisure and transient clientele.

Marie Joy Ong-Newberry has been appointed as Director of Finance at Dream Hollywood

As the Director of Finance, Marie Joy Ong-Newberry contributes her 19 years of hospitality experience to the Dream Hollywood team, having worked served most recently as the Hotel Controller for Hotel Bel Air for nearly twelve years. Her experience also includes her roles with Wyndham Bel Age in West Hollywood and Wyndham Myrtle Beach Resort. She is responsible for leading the Finance team in management of financial and accounting policies, systems, and processes, and preparing the hotel’s opening operating budgets and pre-opening budgets. Ong-Newberry received her bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the Conrad N. Hilton College at the University of Houston.
