nst the expectations of the third quarter preview of Trends and Opportunities Brazil, in the fourth and last quarter of 2014 the overall performance of the subject hospitality markets analyzed decreased. Historically, periods of presidential elections may cause some trouble to the corporate hospitality demand. Especially this year, uncertainties about the election result and its reflex in the economy slowed down the corporate market in the period. These factors allied to the expressive supply growth in some cities, resulted in negatives variations of RevPAR in all cities but São Paulo.

Brazil's lodging fundamentals remain positive as the country experienced a double-digit rise in average daily rates (ADR) and record revenue per available room (RevPAR) growth in 2011. Steady performance levels coupled with efficiencies in hotel operations led to record profits with a historic high of 36.5 percent gross operating performance for hotels, according to Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels' annual, bi-lingual research study, Lodging Industry in Numbers – Brazil 2012.

Brazilian Hotels Posting Double-Digit Performance Growth for Second Consecutive Year

"Booming domestic and international travel demand in the country continues to drive up occupancy and average daily rates, or ADR, in markets across Brazil," said Ricardo Mader, Executive Vice President for Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels in Sao Paulo. "The rise in ADR has outpaced the country's GDP growth, highlighting the significant recovery in the sector."

STR: US hotel performance for week ending 30 July 2011

The U.S. hotel industry experienced increases in all three key performance metrics during the week of 24-30 July 2011, according to data from STR. In year-over-year comparisons for the week, occupancy rose 2.5 percent to 72.8 percent, average daily rate increased 4.1 percent to US$103.59, and revenue per available room finished the week up 6.7 percent to US$75.42.
