Frasers Hospitality Partners WWF-Singapore On New Earth Hour Programme For Climate Action

Demonstrating its continued support for global environmental sustainability awareness this year, Frasers Hospitality, a division of Frasers Centrepoint Limited ("FCL"), has signed on as the first partner in WWF Earth Hour's 'Just One' hotels programme. Under this pioneer programme, guests will be invited to support critical WWF climate projects by adding an additional $1 for every night spent at participating Frasers Hospitality properties to contribute towards protecting the 'homes' of millions of people and wildlife around the world.

PolyU Study Finds Hong Kong Hotel Employees’ Efforts Key to Successful Implementation of Green Practices

Hotels in Hong Kong that are looking to implement environmentally friendly policies should consider the knowledge, awareness, attitudes and behaviour of their employees, according to the Drs Eric Chan, Alice Hon, Wilco Chan of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and a co-researcher. Attempting to implement new policies with employees who are unwilling to change their behaviour could increase staff turnover and reduce the success of the programme. Selecting the right employees and providing in-depth training on environmental issues are thus important strategies for ecologically conscious hotels.

IHG and IL&FS Skills Partner to Develop Vocational Hospitality Talent in India

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) and IL&FS Skills, one of India’s largest skills development organisations, have today announced the launch of the 15th IHG Academy programme in India, joining over 300 IHG Academy programmes globally. The partnership will see IL&FS Institute of Skills (IIS) providing IHG approved vocational hospitality training across the country as part of the programme. Following the three-month course, participants are able to apply for roles at IHG hotels in India and across the globe.

The Ascott Limited In The Philippines Supports World Vision’s Typhoon Yolanda Relief Response

In the face of the overwhelming challenge to provide immediate relief to a multitude of people affected by super typhoon Yolanda, The Ascott Limited in the Philippines steps forward to do its share. Ascott, with support from CapitaLand Hope Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Ascott's parent company, CapitaLand, aims to raise PHP1.5 million for the emergency relief response of World Vision. World Vision's relief efforts aim to provide food, blankets, mosquito nets, tarps, hygiene kits and emergency shelter to nearly 400,000 typhoon victims. The child-focused humanitarian agency has also started setting up child-friendly spaces in the badly hit provinces to help children recover from the trauma and regain a sense of normalcy following the disaster.

PolyU Seeks to Enhance the Role of Travel Trade in Reducing Tourism’s Carbon Footprint

The Schoolof Hoteland Tourism Management (SHTM) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) today (17 September) announced the findings of a study on "Enhancing the Role of the Travel Trade in Reducing Tourism's Carbon Footprint". The study found that though senior management and owners of travel agencies are aware of tourism's contribution to carbon emissions, the limited provision of carbon efficient products is hindering their frontline staff from promoting low carbon tourism to their clients.

Marriott Teams Up with Yao Ming

Yao Ming, former National Basketball Association star, visited the Marriott International headquarters Friday to celebrate the company's partnership with the Yao Foundation. Under the terms of the three-year agreement, Marriott will donate $800,000 to the Yao Foundation to help establish three Project Hope schools in rural areas of the Southwestern region of China. The Marriott donation will also be used to support the Yao Foundation Hope Primary School basketball season program in 2014 and 2015. Meritus Hotels & Resorts Signs MOU with Funtasy Island Development for the Management of Hotel and Villas in the World's Largest Eco Theme Park

Asian hospitality chain Meritus Hotels & Resorts (MHR) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Funtasy Island Development (FID) Pte Ltd for the management of a deluxe resort development comprising a 200-room condotel, a 230-suite hotel, and an aggregate of 413-unit villas on Funtasy Island - envisioned to be the largest eco theme park and the first gated island community in the world.
