It’s the second hotel Ariel Schiff has built in the trendy Mitte district, and four more are in the pipeline. “We’re being offered new sites every week,” Schiff, a 46- year-old entrepreneur who was born in the city, said in an interview last week in the hotel lobby. “There are no free spots in Paris, London or Rome.”

THE recovery of London's hotel property market looks set to gather pace in the next few weeks as buyers seek to close on a clutch of deals worth more than £1.5 billion ($2.45bn). The Times reports that Singapore's Kop Group will this week agree the estimated £70 million acquisition of the former City headquarters of the Willis insurance empire for redevelopment as a super-luxury hotel. Westmont Hospitality, a US investor, is understood to have emerged as the frontrunner to acquire the Eton Group chain of five boutique hotels for up to £50 million, while an Indian bidder is thought to be in advanced talks to buy the Grosvenor House on Park Lane in Central London for £470million.
