Ten Percent of the Products Consumed at RIU’s Hotels in The Balearic Islands are Locally Produced

In just two years, RIU Hotels & Resorts has doubled the amount of local products used at its hotels in the Balearic Islands. This figure stood at 5.7% in 2023, before increasing to 7% in 2024 and reaching 10% in 2025. This amount is calculated as a percentage of the hotels’ total spending and represents a significant milestone for the chain, which intends to continue increasing the proportion of local products used in the coming years as part of its Proudly Committed sustainability strategy, supporting the community and reducing the company’s scope 2 carbon emissions.

Level 5: a&o Venice is the first hostel in Europe to achieve the maximum GreenSign sustainability standard

Recently, composters on the roof of the house have been recycling organic waste from breakfast/dinner. The plants in the hostel benefit from the nutrient-rich fertilizer produced in this way. Arben Maliqi: "Our goal is to be the first European hostel chain to be CO2-neutral in 2025. For us, net zero means reducing our own ecological footprint to a minimum and offsetting the rest." a&o is already the only hostel chain in Europe to show the individual CO2 value per booking on all reservations and guest invoices.
