Only 5% hotels in these cities are following rate parity whereas more than 80% on an average prefer to keep their rates cheaper on regional and global OTAs.
Mirvac Group has sold its hotel management business Mirvac Hotels & Resorts and associated investments to a consortium including Accor Asia Pacific and Ascendas for 327 million Australian dollars (US$327 million). The transaction includes 46 hotels across Australia and New Zealand and represents a 15.1% premium to the carrying value of those assets as at 30 June.

Former Liberal Party fund-raising boss, Paul Nicolaou has been appointed the next chief executive officer of the Australian Hotels Association (NSW). He will take up the position in January 2012 taking over from current CEO Sally Fielke, who announced her resignation in September. Nicolaou, a married father of two, is a former executive chairman of the Millennium Forum, the primary fund-raising vehicle for the NSW Liberals. He was also the Liberal candidate for the NSW seat of Pittwater in the 2005 State Election. He is the current managing director of a corporate advisory firm and serves on a number of Boards including The Gut Foundation and The Centennial Parklands Trust Foundation. The former Waverley College student also has a Master of Commerce degree. Nicolaou said in a statement today that he was looking forward to the challenge of representing the State’s hotel industry.

Outrigger Hotels & Resorts today announced it had entered into an agreement to purchase the management rights and associated real estate assets of the hotel property currently operating as the Holiday Inn Surfers Paradise.The sale includes the management rights from Colryan Pty Ltd (managers and receivers appointed) for up to 414 hotel rooms and the real estate assets from Seasilver Hotels Pty Ltd comprising reception, extensive conferencing areas, and restaurant and bar.The contract is subject to the satisfaction of standard commercial conditions. However, it is expected to settle in late 2011 or early 2012 and the property will then be re-branded to Outrigger Surfers Paradise.Outrigger Hotels & Resorts is a 64-year-old privately-held U.S. company and one of the fastest growing hospitality groups in the Asia-Pacific and Oceania regions. Mantra Group has defied the challenging tourism and leisure conditions in Queensland in 2011, achieving an increase in revenue per available room (RevPar) across the Queensland network in the past 12 months of 3.74% and an overall revenue increase of 9.06%.
