108-key Appellation Appellation™ Healdsburg planned to open for Harvest 2023

Celebrated American chef Charlie Palmer and hotel industry veteran Christopher Hunsberger announce the co-founded launch of Appellation, the first hotel brand born from the elegant merger of culinary and hospitality. Appellation, meaning "to give a name to a place," will cultivate community around food and the role it plays in bringing people together, while exuding 'approachable luxury' in accommodations and service. The brand's initial new-build hotels will debut in iconic leisure destinations in Idaho with Appellation Sun Valley (2023) and two distinct regions in California with Appellation Healdsburg (2023) and Appellation Pacific Grove (2024).

Elgin Thomas has been appointed as Director of Engineering at The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco

With years of experience in opening, developing, and managing hotels, Elgin Thomas will be responsible for overseeing the hotel's operations and maintenance as the new Director of Engineering. Previously, Thomas was the Director of Facilities at The Ritz-Carlton Club and Residences, San Francisco where he managed the engineering team and achieved some of the best employee satisfaction and guest engagement scores within the Marriott and Ritz-Carlton brands. In his past work experiences, Thomas was an experienced Hospitality Manager at the Towneplace Suite-Northlake Atlanta, Courtyard by Marriott-Oakland Airport, and Courtyard by Marriott-Newark where he had an outstanding track record of exceeding department goals.

Chris Bean has been appointed as Executive Sous Chef at The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco

Chris Bean first joined The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco in 2011 as a cook at the former Dining Room restaurant before joining the in room dining culinary team. With a passion for the culinary arts, Bean then worked in various positions in the banquet kitchen before being promoted to Kitchen Supervisor, followed by Banquet Sous Chef. In 2018, Bean took the opportunity to sharpen his culinary skills as the Sous Chef in training at Parallel 37. For his leadership, culinary excellence, and achieving high guest satisfaction, Bean won The Ritz-Carlton Five-Star Employee of the Year award in 2016 and The Ritz-Carlton Leader of Fourth Quarter award in 2019. As the new Executive Sous Chef, Bean will assist in leading and overseeing all culinary staff, kitchens, and restaurants at the city landmark hotel.

Carlos Gomez has been appointed as Director of Restaurants at The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco

With vast experience within the hospitality industry, Carlos Gomez held various roles in the Middle East and Europe. He started as an F&B Management Trainee with the Hilton in Doha, Qatar, then became Restaurant Director for Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai. After a few years in the Middle East, Gomez returned to Spain and joined The Ritz-Carlton, Hotel Arts Barcelona working a variety of positions including Director of Marina & Pool Operations, Director of Banquets, and lastly Director of Restaurants for Enoteca by Paco Perez, a Two Michelin Star restaurant. In his new role as Director of Restaurants for The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco, Gomez will oversee the Lobby Lounge, Parallel 37, and in room dining operations.

Jazz Moralez has been appointed as the Beverage Manager at the reimagined Finch & Fork at the iconic Kimpton Canary Hotel in Santa Barbara. A fifth generation Santa Barbara native and restaurant industry veteran for over 10 years, Moralez holds a Level 1 Sommelier Court of Masters Sommeliers Certification. She finds inspiration from her travels throughout Europe as a Flamenco dancer, as well as her family's experience hosting foreign exchange students, which sparked her interest i n international culture, with a special interest in food and wine.At Finch & Fork, Moralez is passionate about bringing to life the stories of the local farms, winemakers, and distillers with her wine selections and libations alongside Chef Riker's menu. She is an expert at creating well-balanced drinks with subtle complexities that attract and satisfy both the experienced and novice imbibers. Moralez lives in Santa Barbara with her partner Emiliano and her beloved rescue dogs Buck & Bubbles.

He was most recently Executive Chef at Las Brisas in San Luis Obispo, California.

Sean Collins has been appointed as Executive Chef at Marina Del Rey Hotel

With over 16 years of experience pushing the boundaries in the culinary world, Chef Collins will serve guests and locals alike flavorful California cuisine at the hotel's picturesque restaurant, SALT. Collins' passion for cooking started in the kitchen working alongside his uncle at the Ocean Trail Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes as a line cook. Prior to Marina del Rey Hotel, Collins made stops at Baltaire, Wolfgang Puck at Hotel Bel Air, Gordon Ramsey at The London West Hollywood, Thomas Keller at Bouchon Beverly Hills, and Alain Giraud of Anisette, learning from some of the industry's most talented and esteemed chefs. Collins has a bachelor's degree from The Art Institution of California, Los Angeles where he graduated with honors.
