Fairmont debuts brand’s 2nd largest hotel in the world... in Austin

Fernando Estala has been appointed as Director of Sales & Marketing at Austin Marriott Downtown

White Lodging introduced the new Director of Sales & Marketing for the Austin Marriott Downtown, Fernando Estala. A 16-year veteran with Marriott International, Estala has held leadership roles at premier convention hotels including the San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina, New York Marquis & Marriott Wardman Park in Washington DC. Estala joined the White Lodging team in 2013, and most recently served as Director of Sales & Marketing for the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown. An official groundbreaking of the 613-room Austin Marriott Downtown took place on January 30 with White Lodging executives and city leaders. The hotel, located adjacent to the AustinConvention Center, is scheduled to open in the summer of 2020.

Patrick Taylor has been appointed as Executive Chef at Sheraton Austin Georgetown Hotel

Sheraton Austin Georgetown Hotel & Conference Center announces the appointment of Patrick Taylor as executive chef. Chef Taylor will be responsible for the culinary direction of all food and beverage outlets for the hotel including the signature restaurant Brix And Ale, Jack’s Lounge, banquets and catering.Bringing 15 years of culinary and hotel experience to the Sheraton Austin Georgetown, Chef Taylor was most recently the Executive Chef at The Westin Austin at the Domain’s Urban – An American Grill where he focused on locally sourced ingredients and sustainable practices, working directly with local farms. Previous to that he was the Executive Chef at the Milwaukee Marriott Downtown’s Millioke, which was awarded Marriott’s prestigious “Hotel Opening of the Year” under his leadership. Prior to Millioke, Chef Taylor held various positions including a stint as sous chef at The Westin Austin at the Domain, executive chef at The Westin Houston Memorial City, regional executive chef at Cru A Food and Wine Bar overseeing three restaurants, and banquet chef at the Adolphus in Dallas, Texas. Chef Taylor hails from Texas and attended Le Cordon Blue in Minnesota.

Dan Johnson has been appointed as General Manager at Hyatt Regency Austin

Hyatt Regency Austin, located on the shores of Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin, has announced Dan Johnson as its new General Manager. He joins the property from Hyatt Regency Savannah in Georgia.Mr Johnson has worked with Hyatt Corporation for more than 23 years. He began his career as an intern at Park Hyatt Washington D.C. “My role as PBX operator really helped me to learn the inner workings of the hotel industry, and provided me with invaluable insight of how to effectively provide a positive guest experience,” said Mr Johnson.

Ray DeJohn has been appointed as Director of Sales & Marketing at Hotel Granduca Austin

DeJohn was promoted to director of sales & marketing, where he will lead the sales and catering team, create and support strategic initiatives to maintain and increase hotel sales, and manage corporate and consortia markets. DeJohn joined Hotel Granduca Austin in 2015 as sales manager, part of the pre-opening team, where he was responsible for building corporate and leisure travel programs for the upscale hotel in the Westlake area of Austin. Prior to Hotel Granduca Austin, DeJohn served as sales manager for DoubleTree by Hilton. He also worked with Morgans Hotel Group as group sales manager and is a member of The Global Business Travel Association.

Dual-brand aloft and element hotel opening in Austin, Texas

White Lodging is proud to announce the opening of the dual branded Aloft and Element hotel complex in downtown Austin, Texas. In addition to the 32-story development offering the 278-room Aloft Austin Downtown and 144-room Element Austin Downtown, the property features Caroline, an on-site restaurant, coffeehouse and bakery, as well as Upstairs at Caroline, an urban background playground complete with a bar for the 21+ locals and guests.

The Commodore Perry Estate in Austin, a redevelopment project slated for 2019 Opening

Auberge Resorts Collection, owner and operator of award-winning boutique luxury resorts, residences and clubs, has been selected to manage the Commodore Perry Estate, a small luxury hotel to be developed on the historic "Commodore" Perry Estate in Central Austin. The property is being developed by an ownership team led by Austin-based developers Clark Lyda, The Marchbanks Company and Austin Pfiester. Woodbine Development Corporation is providing project management services. The project's creative team spearheading the redevelopment is comprised of internationally-renowned urbanist Stefanos Polyzoides of Moule & Polyzoides from Pasadena, California, and renowned interior designer Ken Fulkfrom San Francisco, collaborating with Austin-based Clayton & Little Architects and Ten Eyck Landscape Architects.

Greg Dawes has been named Member at HFTP's International Hospitality Technology Hall of Fame

Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP®) is pleased to announce that Greg Dawes and Monika Nerger will be inducted into the HFTP International Hospitality Technology Hall of Fame at the 45th Annual Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition and Conference (HITEC®) in Toronto, Ontario Canada next month. Greg Dawes is currently solutions architect/technical director at VT Group. He has 30+ years of experience in the communications industry with more than 15 years building relationships in the hospitality, education, government and healthcare verticals. He is a true GPON expert, and has been involved with optical LAN almost since the inception of the technology; his strength lies in designing and promoting Passive Optical LAN as the preferred infrastructure of choice in these markets. Dawes is an active member of Hotel Technology Next Generation (HTNG), where he has authored a wide range of published works including: white papers, best practice guides, case studies, webinars and more. In 2012, he founded HTNG’s Fiber to the Room (FTTR) workgroup, and has been the chairman or co-chair of the group ever since.

Jay Spurr has been appointed as Director of Sales and Marketing at JW Marriott Austin

JW Marriott Austin is pleased to welcome Jay Spurr back to Austin as the Market Director of Sales and Marketing. Jay brings nearly 30 years of hospitality experience to this new position and will be primarily responsible for leading the JW Marriott Austin sales and marketing team with expanded responsibilities supporting the new Austin Marriott Downtown, set to begin construction this year. The return to Austin is a homecoming for Spurr, who previously served as the Director of Sales and Marketing for JW Marriott Austin from 2011-2015.
