FAU Student, Kirby Lynn Gilmore, Awarded 7th Annual Dr. Peter Ricci Scholarship Through HSMAI South Florida
HSMAI South Florida continued the awarding of its Dr. Peter Ricci Scholarship at the 2019 Annual GALA held at the Margaritaville Resort in Hollywood, Florida. Professor Greg Bohan, Instructor in the Hospitality and Tourism Management Program at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) presented a check to student Kirby Lynn Gilmore, an upper-division student at Florida Atlantic University with an anticipated graduation date of December, 2020. Kirby received a $2000 contribution to her educational pursuits.

In Memoriam, A Tribute to Professor Patrick “Chip” Cassidy
Professor Patrick "Chip" Cassidy, founder and director of the Wine Program at the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management at Florida International University, passed away peacefully on October 28th in-home hospice care. The cause of death was complications of esophageal cancer. Considered South Florida's foremost wine expert and affectionately known as "Miami's Wine Guru," Professor Cassidy brought his love of wine, travel and country to his students and to the South Florida community.

Hotel Industry Marks Significant Progress Toward 2020 Nationwide Implementation of Safety Devices
One year after a historic announcement pledging to increase safety and security at America's hotels, the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) today announced a 230 percent increase in members participating in the 5-Star Promise, growing the commitment to 56 hotel companies. Participating hotels have made significant progress over the past year in deploying employee safety devices (ESDs), with devices already provided in several markets, including New York, Washington, Chicago, Seattle and Miami Beach, and a goal of nationwide implementation by 2020.
Georgia Officials Partner With Hotel Industry to Combat Human Trafficking
ATLANTA, GA - Today, Governor Brian Kemp, First Lady Marty Kemp, Senator David Perdue, Attorney General Chris Carr, Congressman Doug Collins and Georgia Speaker Pro-Tempore Jan Jones partnered with the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA), Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) and the Georgia Hotel & Lodging Association (GHLA) to raise awareness across the state for a unified approach to combatting human trafficking.
