FIU Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management names new Chair and Vice Chair and welcomes new Board member

Florida International University's Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management appoints hospitality alumnus John McKibbon ’75 as Chair of the Dean’s Executive Advisory Board (EAB) with fellow alumna, Norma Becker ’82 as Vice Chair. In addition, it welcomes a new board member, Matias Pesce, MSF ’18, CEO of Vida & Estilo, a Miami and Las Vegas-based restaurant and hotel hospitality group. The trio and 18 other board members will continue to advise Michael Cheng, dean of the Chaplin School, and support the top 8 ranked hospitality school's mission to educate future hospitality leaders.

AHLA Foundation Renews Apprenticeship Contract With U.S. Department of Labor

AHLA Foundation, in partnership with the Employment and Training Administration Office of Apprenticeship at the U.S. Department of Labor, will expand its registered apprenticeship programs for the hospitality industry. The $505,000 grant will enable AHLA Foundation to serve more than 400 apprentices in one of three pathways: Lodging Manager, Hotel Cook, and Maintenance.

AHLA Condemns Destructive Joint-Employer Rule

American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) President & CEO Chip Rogers is speaking out today after the National Labor Relations Board issued a final regulation unjustifiably expanding the “joint-employer standard” under the National Labor Relations Act. The standard is used to determine when two or more employers are jointly responsible for a shared group of workers’ essential terms and conditions of employment and thus jointly liable for violations of the National Labor Relations Act and have joint bargaining responsibilities for unionized employees.

[REPORT]: Hotel Boards Are Becoming Increasingly Diverse

AHLA Foundation, the charitable arm of the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA), today announced its new ForWard initiative to support the advancement of women into hotel industry leadership and ownership. The ForWard initiative represents the merger of ForWard – which began as an AHLA event – and the Castell Project into one brand offering a suite of resources, events, professional development opportunities, and community-building forums to develop a pipeline of women leaders in hospitality. The Castell Project, a legacy brand focused on accelerating the advancement of women leaders in hospitality, was acquired by the Foundation last year.
