A 247-room Holiday Inn Express hotel will break ground this month in Washington, DC's Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood. Birchington LLC, owned by Habte Sequar, closed on a construction loan from Atlanta-based Stonehill Strategic Capital to commence construction on the $93 million project.

Key development partners area vice president of full service franchise of Marriott International, Richard Veilleux, vice president of Hunt Construction, Jeff Clemens, and design principal of Sottile & Sottile and former dean of the School of Building Arts at SCAD, Christian Sottile, were also in attendance.
R.D. Olson Construction, an award-winning general contracting firm in California, today announced the ground-up construction of AC Hotel Wailea, a 70,000-square-foot, four-story estate hotel located on the southside of Maui County in Wailea. Situated on a three-acre lot, the 110-room hotel will include one-bedroom suites and studio options, a business center, fitness area and infinity-edge pool complete with a poolside tiki bar and cabanas.

OTO Development, part of The Johnson Group, has broken ground on Hyatt Place National Harbor. Slated to open in late 2020, the seven-story waterfront hotel will be the first Hyatt-branded property in Prince George's County, Maryland. It's the latest hospitality addition to National Harbor, a 350-acre destination on the banks of the Potomac River with a variety of shopping, dining and entertainment opportunities.

Southern California based RAR Hospitality, a full-spectrum hospitality management firm, has recently broken ground on the first Tapestry Collection by Hilton property in San Diego, The Monsaraz - set to open in summer 2020. Tapestry Collection by Hilton added 14 hotels to its portfolio of modern, stylish hotels in 2018 and has another 45 in its global pipeline (as of Q4 2018), including eight additional California properties. The development is a partnership with local development firm Alliance Development, who brings a wealth of knowledge to the team.
The 227-room Hyatt Centric Beale Street will be developed through a joint venture between affiliates of Hyatt and Carlisle Hotels, Inc. The hotel will be developed within Carlisle's One Beale Street mixed-use project, to be located at the intersection of Beale Street and Front Street, just one block east of the Mississippi River and Riverside Drive. In addition to 227 guestrooms, Hyatt Centric Beale Street Memphis will feature a rooftop lounge, offering breathtaking views of the city's skyline and Mississippi River, as well as a ground floor lobby containing the hotel restaurant, bar and fitness center. Just off the lobby, guests will also enjoy an open-air courtyard with an outdoor swimming pool and fire pit, plus more than 14,000 square feet of meeting and event space located on the other side of the courtyard within the historic Wm. C. Ellis & Sons Ironworks and Machine Shop. Hotel construction is slated to begin in the second quarter of 2019, with an anticipated opening date by the end of 2020. Local Memphis design house, HBG Design, has been engaged for the hotel project.
The 233-room Hyatt Centric hotel in downtown Austin will be a new build, wholly owned by Hyatt. Centrally located on Congress Street, the hotel is expected to open in mid-2020 and will be near the State of Texas capitol building. Hyatt announced a joint venture with C. B. Ragland of Nashville to develop Hyatt Centric Downtown Nashville, a 252-room new build with a restaurant, bar, amenity deck with a rooftop pool, 4,500 square feet of meeting and event space and 4,000 square feet of leasable retail space. Expected to open in Q2 2021, the hotel will be managed by Hyatt. Hyatt Centric Downtown Nashville will be located within the entertainment district of Music City, one block from Ascend Amphitheater, three blocks south of the city's famed lower Broadway and four blocks from Bridgestone Arena and Nissan Stadium. Adventurous guests will be within walking distance of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, Tennessee Performing Arts Center and the Ryman Auditorium.

Located on the corner of Center and Commercial Streets in Portland, Maine's Old Port neighborhood, the 135-room hotel will be situated on one of the last remaining buildable lots. Chartwell Hospitality LLC, an integrated hotel operations and development company, announced the groundbreaking of the 150-room SpringHill Suites by Marriott in Franklin's Cool Springs neighborhood. Prominent, Miami-based real estate investment and development company Key International has broken ground on an AC Hotel by Marriott, the design-led lifestyle hotel brand by Marriott International. The property, which was acquired in 2016 as three adjoining land parcels that span more than a half-acre, is located in prime Fort Lauderdale Beach, Fla., and will feature 171 guest rooms amidst 10 stories.
Chattanooga-based Vision Hospitality Group, Inc., in partnership with Eraa Hospitality, also based in Chattanooga, recently broke ground on the TownePlace Suites by Marriott Tuscaloosa, AL. The 93-suite hotel marks Vision's entrance into the Alabama market.
