Major freehold purchase in central London

Whitbread PLC (‘Whitbread’ or ‘Group’) is pleased to announce that it has acquired a prime freehold property on the Strand in central London, located just off Trafalgar Square. Subject to planning, 5 Strand will become the latest hub by Premier Inn hotel in the estate and is expected to open sometime during 2027. The purchase and development are being funded from the Group’s existing cash resources and will also include one of the Group’s popular Bar+Block steakhouse restaurants.

Scandic and Pandox have agreed to extend the leases for 15 hotels and one conference property. Pursuant to the agreement, the rental terms will remain unchanged, enabling good profitability and balanced risk for Scandic. The parties have also agreed on a joint renovation program for the hotels.

Travelodge reveals its current hotel development schedule for 2022 and 2023

Earlier this week, the UK’s second largest hotel chain, Travelodge, announces its current hotel development schedule. This includes plans to open six UK hotels in 2022 (including the group’s first new build budget-luxe design hotels) and a franchise flagship hotel in Dublin, together with the start of its 2023 new hotel openings programme, with construction started on four new hotels and contracts exchanged for six further future new UK Travelodge hotels in the last 12 months.
