The ranking of the top 50 CEOs published every year by the prestigious Forbes magazine has named Gabriel Escarrer, Executive Vice President and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, in ninth position among the top executives in Spain in 2021. The year is described as a "year full of challenges" due to the difficulties in reactivating the economy after the pandemic and the need to adapt to living with the virus and to an extremely volatile business environment, with a succession of events and global challenges such as the supply-chain crisis, rising energy prices and geopolitical tension.

Deutsche Hospitality invests in professional potential with its own hotel management school

The Steigenberger Academy has returned to the DH Family, and Deutsche Hospitality has thus become the only hotel group in Europe to have its own state-recognised initial and continuing training venue. Ulrich Bensel, CHRO of Deutsche Hospitality, will become Managing Director of the Steigenberger Academy. Responsibility for day-to-day running will remain with Bettina Wolf. Deutsche Hospitality has taken the Steigenberger Academy back in house with the aims of countering the shortage of skilled workers within the sector and of offering even more attractive continuing training opportunities to its approximately 11,000 employees. Located in Bad Reichenhall, the academy boasts a proud tradition which stretches back for more than 70 years. It formed part of Steigenberger Hotels AG during the period from 1972 to 2011.

I've long been a believer in the model - Happy Staff-Happy Guest- Profitable Business.My personal view is that this is where the real solution lies. As an industry we are reasonably good at measuring things. Although I don't believe we are as good as measuring the right things together.
