23rd World Forum of AMFORHT - "Education and Tourism: Writing the future into action"

This annual event aims to bring together around 130 participants worldwide: hoteliers, restaurant owners, tourism professionals, schools, universities, tourist institutions, international tourism experts. To pay tribute to the educational know-how of one of the first economic sectors focused on human capital, the 23rd AMFORHT World Forum will be held in Paris from 14th to 16th March 2019. As it coincides with the Organization's 50th anniversary, the event will be exceptionally welcomed at the French National Assembly on 15th March.

Bachelor Village Opened on EHL's Passugg Campus

Today, the Swiss School of Tourism and Hospitality (SSTH) and its parent company, EHL Group, opened the new Bachelor Village on its Passugg campus. In the future, the Bachelor Village will accommodate students who are carrying out the HES-SO Bachelor of Science in International Hospitality Management—designed and accredited by the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL)—in Passugg. Today's opening marks the first stage of a comprehensive extension to the Passugg campus and further consolidates EHL's investment in Grisons, the heart of Swiss tourism. With this expansion, the school is creating room for the constantly-growing number of professionals and students.

Helping to prevent the UK hospitality skills gap after Brexit

A study from Visit Britain says that visits to the the UK are set to pass 40m for the first time in 2018. However, research shows that the UK Hospitality and Tourism sectors are at high risk of falling short in terms of qualified and experienced staff. With Brexit approaching and immigration rules getting tighter, as many as 330,000 hospitality staff in the UK are considering going back to their own country. The sector is looking into a potential recruitment black hole.

GDPR in the EU and UK: AETHOS' 3 Steps for Complying with Employer Responsibilities

GDPR. Four letters of the alphabet that are proving to represent one of the biggest challenges facing businesses in 2018. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into effect on 25th May across the European Union, including the UK, and impacts any organisation that operates within the EU that processes data of EU citizens wherever they may be in the world. How organisations hold, store and process personal data will now be subject to higher and more consistent scrutiny - with potentially significant penalty for non-compliance. AETHOS Consulting Group's London Managing Director Chris Mumford emphasizes that much attention is already given to how customer data is handled under GDPR, especially in the hospitality sector where hotels process a high volume of personal information and payment data. "GDPR not only impacts how a business interacts with its external customers but also how it manages data internally with regard to its employees. In an industry such as hospitality where the labour force is so often highly diverse and comprised of multiple nationalities, most organisations will be affected by GDPR."

Change of leadership at several Steigenberger hotels

Gabriele Maessen will take over the reins at the Steigenberger Hotel am Kanzleramt in Berlin with effect from April 2018. She will also be responsible for Steigenberger Hotels in the East Region as Area General Manager. Alongside the Steigenberger Hotel am Kanzleramt, her remit in this latter capacity will include the Steigenberger Hotel Berlin, the Steigenberger Hotel Sanssouci in Potsdam, the Steigenberger Hotel de Saxe in Dresden, the Steigenberger Hotel Esplanade and the Maxx Hotel in Jena.
