Newly opened Villa Igiea celebrates Sicilian glamour and the 19th-Century with Art Nouveau interiors

Rocco Forte Hotels, the prestigious family-run hotel group, led by Sir Rocco Forte and his sister, Olga Polizzi, unveiled its newest hotel in Sicily, Villa Igiea, on 3rd June 2021. Olga Polizzi, Deputy Chairman and Director of Design, in collaboration with renowned architects Paolo Moschino and Philip Vergeylen of Nicholas Haslam Studios, led the preservation and creative reinvention process. Originally built as a private palazzo at the end of the 19th century, the Florio family purchased and restored Villa Igiea transforming it into one of the most luxurious hotels in Sicily. The hotel soon became one of the epicentres of society and Belle Époque aristocracy in Europe. The Grand Hotel Villa Igiea welcomed royalty, dignitaries and Hollywood luminaries with Nicholas II of Russia, Edward VII and George V of Great Britain, Chulalongkorn of Siam and the Duc d'Orléans among its early patrons. Meanwhile, the likes of Baron Rothschild and John Pierpont Morgan would arrive by yacht. The 100-room Grade 1-listed landmark has undergone a meticulous renovation over the past two years; every effort has been made to preserve its unique heritage features whilst blending them with a contemporary flair to exquisite effect to provide the utmost comfort for guests. In turn, the palazzo has been brought back its former symbol of elegance and hospitality whilst evoking the feeling of the private residence, which it once was.

The IntercityHotel Rome Tiburtina marks Deutsche Hospitality’s debut in Italy

Benvenuti in the Eternal City. The new build IntercityHotel Rome Tiburtina will become Deutsche Hospitality's first hotel in the Italian capital once it opens for business in 2024. Located directly adjacent to Tiburtina mainline railway station and within the immediate vicinity of Rome's old quarter, this market launch by Deutsche Hospitality will offer around 311 rooms, a restaurant, a bar and six conference rooms. The project is being realised in conjunction with Progretto Tiburtina S.R.L., a subsidiary of MTK Group AG, with which Deutsche Hospitality has already successfully collaborated on the recently opened Jaz in the City Vienna.

Cooler than gelato: 25hours opens its first hotel in Italy

The first 25hours hotel in Italy will open on 8 September 2021. The 25hours Hotel Piazza San Paolino occupies a central location in the Santa Maria Novella district at the heart of Florence. This is among the most authentic and lesser-known neighbourhoods in the Italian city and a little off the beaten track. Just a stroll away from the train station, at the back of the Museo del Novecento, the 25hours Hotel San Paolino fills an entire block between the elegant Via de Fossi with its numerous antique shops and the popular Via Palazzuolo, connecting two neighbourhoods that have been largely insular until now. The 25hours Hotel San Paolino is situated in the former premises of Monte de 'Pegni - the lending company of the Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze - and has its central core of 66 rooms in the original monastery next to the eponymous church of San Paolino. These hallowed halls are now imbued with fresh creative energy thanks to controlled demolitions, new building elements and restored areas. Enhancing the historic core is a new annexe boasting another 104 guest rooms with balconies, as well as the Casetta del Giardino, a small apartment with a private garden and pool. All these ingredients have created a modern, cosmopolitan hotel with 171 rooms unlike anything currently available in Florence.

Now Open, Borgo Santandrea: The First New Luxury Hotel On The Amalfi Coast In 15 Years

Borgo Santandrea, a new cliffside hotel in Amalfi 90 metres above sea level, has opened, following a meticulous, 'slow' and respectful three-year restoration. The hotel is a passion project that unites two Italian families, who bring generations of hospitality experience to Borgo Santandrea. Borgo Santandrea opens with 29 guestrooms and 16 suites, each one offering uninterrupted views of the sea and ancient fisherman's hamlet of Conca dei Marini. The property has undergone a detailed renovation over the last three years, combining Mid-Century design details with classic Mediterranean style. White and blue hues feature throughout, alongside geometric hand-painted tiles, antique furniture, and hand-crafted pieces by local Amalfitano artisans. To reach the hotel's private beach, guests will descend the cliffside in a lift, or amble down a series of walkways and staircases amongst the fragrant terraced gardens of olive and lemon trees.
