PKF-HR Updates Forecast to Show RevPAR Growth in 2010 While Profits Lag

PKF Hospitality Research (PKF-HR) today announced that, according to the May 2010 edition of Hotel Horizons®, U.S. hotels should enjoy a 1.7 percent growth in RevPAR in 2010, but bottom-line profits (NOI) will contract another 1.4 percent. The projection of growth in RevPAR for 2010 marks a very positive change in the outlook for the U.S. lodging industry since PKF-HR's last forecast published in March of 2010.

STR reports US hotel performance for week ending 8 May 2010

In year-over-year measurements, the industry’s occupancy increased 6.4 percent to 57.0 percent. Average daily rate ended the week virtually flat with a 0.8-percent decrease to US$97.08. Revenue per available room rose 5.6 percent to US$55.30.

STR releases 2010 summer forecast

The summer travel season comprises June, July and August. STR predicts summer occupancy will increase 2.2 percent from summer 2009 to 63.1 percent, average daily rate will decrease 1.9 percent to US$95.16, and revenue per available room will end the summer virtually flat with a 0.2-percent increase to US$60.03.

Hotel Industry Leading indicator shows growth in March

The United States Hotel Industry Leading indicator, or HIL, went up 0.4 percent during March, the second monthly increase after a slight dip in January's reading, according to economic research firm e-forecasting.com in conjunction with STR. The metric rose 0.5 percent in February.

In year-over-year measurements, the industry’s occupancy increased 5.7 percent to 58.8 percent. Average daily rate dropped 1.5 percent to US$98.07. Revenue per available room rose 4.2 percent to US$57.62.

STR reports first-quarter results for 2010

The U.S. hotel industry reported mixed results in the three key performance metrics for first-quarter 2010 in year-over-year measurements, according to data from STR. The industry’s occupancy was up 2.3 percent to 51.9 percent, average daily rate fell 4.3 percent to US$96.27, and revenue per available room decreased 2.1 percent to US$50.01.

In year-over-year measurements, the industry’s occupancy increased 12.6 percent increase to 59.2 percent. Average daily rate ended the week virtually flat with a 0.4-percent decrease to US$96.31. Revenue per available room for the week was up 12.1 percent to US$57.00.

Olympic Games brings success to Vancouver’s hotel industry | Deloitte Reports

Recent analysis by Deloitte, the business advisory firm, has found that revenue per available room (revPAR), a key performance indicator for the hotel industry, jumped 157.5 percent to CAD$202 in Vancouver during the month of February when it hosted the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

STR: US results for week ending 3 April 2010

The U.S. hotel industry reported decreases in all three key performance measurements during the week of 28 March-3 April 2010, according to data from STR. In year-over-year measurements, the industry’s occupancy ended the week with a 3.6-percent decrease to 54.1 percent. Average daily rate dropped 4.4 percent to finish the week at US$94.45. Revenue per available room for the week was down 7.9 percent to US$51.05.

The face of the U.S. hotel industry’s recovery is taking on a different look. According to STR’s revised forecast for 2010 and 2011, recovery could be influenced by things such as tax changes and health-care reform. The means a rebound will come quicker in 2010 but could get slow as 2011 unfolds.

In year-over-year measurements, the industry’s occupancy increased 3.1 percent to 59.2 percent. Average daily rate ended the week virtually flat with a 0.2-percent increase to CAD$120.75. Double-Digit Revenue Growth Lies Ahead for U.S. Hotels | PKF Hospitality research Projects

PKF-HR is forecasting hotel rooms revenue to grow 10.5 percent on a per-available-room basis (RevPAR) in 2012. "The U.S. lodging industry has not seen double-digit growth in RevPAR since the inflationary days of the late 1970s and early 1980s," said R. Mark Woodworth, president of PKF Hospitality Research. "The strong growth in RevPAR is driven by Moody's Economy.com's forecasts for income and employment. In 2012, Moody's is projecting income to grow at a 4.4 percent pace, something we have not seen since 2006. In addition, the 3.2 percent forecast growth for employment that year is an all-time high since 1988."

Hotel Industry Pulse index edges upward

The Hotel Industry Pulse Index (HIP) posted a slight recovery in February, according to economic research firm e-forecasting.com in conjunction with STR. After edging down 0.5 percent in January, HIP improved 1.3 percent in February.
